Singles, Doubles, and Paradiddles: Building Your Drumming Foundation

June 17, 20241 min read

Welcome to the "Singles, Doubles, and Paradiddles Workout"! As the name suggests, this session focuses on these essential drumming building blocks.

Ready, Set, Practice!

Before diving in, make sure you have a good handle on singles, doubles, and paradiddles individually. This workout seamlessly connects them, taking your skills to the next level.

The Breakdown:

We'll be playing one bar of each rudiment, transitioning smoothly between them:

  • Singles: Focus on clean, even strokes with a metronome click (e.g. three e and a four and a one)

  • Doubles: Feel the alternating hand connection (e.g. three, four)

  • Paradiddles: Maintain a consistent flow, with or without slight accents (e.g. three, four)

Embrace the Flow:

The key is to connect these elements seamlessly. Don't worry about overly emphasizing every paradiddle note – a natural flow is more important. Focus on maintaining a steady tempo and clean transitions.

The Power of Variety:

This workout is a goldmine for developing coordination and muscle memory. Switching between singles, doubles, and paradiddles engages different muscle groups, making you a more well-rounded drummer.

Benefits Abound:

As you progress to faster tempos, this workout becomes even more powerful. It strengthens your control and ability to switch between different drumming techniques with ease.

Get In There and Groove!

This is a fun and challenging workout that will benefit your drumming in countless ways. So, grab your sticks, put on the click, and get ready to groove!
