What’s your go-to warm-up routine? As a professional drummer myself, let me tell you, my warm-up has evolved over the years, adapting to my needs and playing styles. But there's one trusty drill that's remained a constant:
This exercise is a true multi-tasking workout for your drumming muscles. Here's the gist:
Feet: Lay down a steady double stroke roll with your feet. Think smooth and controlled, not a frantic tap dance.
Hands: On top of the footwork, play a combination of single strokes, double strokes, and paradiddles with your hands. Mix it up, challenge yourself!
This seemingly simple exercise packs a punch, working on:
Timing: Keeping your hands and feet locked in tight is no small feat!
Coordination: Multitasking on the kit is essential, and this drill hones those skills.
Dynamics: Experiment with playing the hand parts loud and soft against the steady footwork.
Articulation: Focus on clean, crisp hits with each stroke, single or double.
